While watching the Braves/Nationals game last night, I loved the mask UIC was wearing. Anybody know the brand? It was not a current Wilson, Davis, Allstar or Diamond. Could it have been custom made?

Was it the Allstar 1500UMP Question

I didn't notice the mask that the PU was wearing in the game noted by Dave, but I did look at this All-Star mask. From what I can tell, it seems to be a traditional mask that has been modified to fit like the bottom half of a HSM. I can't find a picture that actually shows what the pad for the chin and cheeks actually looks like though. Interesting!

hitrunscore.com has them for $44.99.

It looked the Nike mask that was distributed to MLB catchers and some MLB umpires were able to get a few as well. Per Rob Drake, the Nike logo has to be covered since Wilson has an MLB contract....

Thanks for the input. It's not the Allstar, and it's not hockey-style. Could be a top secret Nike. Couldn't find anything on Nike site. I put an e-mail to MLB Umpire site. Mike Reilly was PU. Anybody's guess, it was clean and beautiful.

I was wearing one last night.

Silver Titanium Round Bars (lighter weight than any things else I have seen)

Great navy pads . . . kinda of a leather/fabric mix.

The mask is not available for sale in the USA as of yet. You can buy it in Japan.

Regards,

I am woundering if this is the same mask the Yankee's Posada was using last year. I saw him take a foul ball off the mask and the game was delayed for about 10 minutes while he went back into the clubhouse to get a backup mask. TV showed a number of the Yankees passing the mask around looking at the bent bars.
Posada had some sort of an agreement with Nike to design equipment.

Just because you are new doesn't mean you can't keep up.

Jorge uses the cathcer's version of the mask.

As we all know, because of the marketing agreement between Wilson and the MLB union no other logo except "Wilson" can be visable on the person of any MLB umpire. Joe simply switched pads to conform to the agreement.

As Tee mentions above, MLB umpires have gone to great lengths to make sure that only the Wilson logo is visible. Last night in the ATL vs. PIT game, Ed Hickox had the plate and he was wearing a Riddell Power. You could see the Riddell logo near the buttoned flap of his plate coat. However, he had a big yelllow W logo just above it and to the untrained observer I am sure all they saw was the Wilson logo.
